Phamacists are experts in the use of medicine and they can diagnose and treat your minor illness.
There are 39 pharmacies in South Tyneside, with 17 open on Saturdays and Sundays. You can go to any pharmacy of your choice, it does not have to be your local pharmacy, as long as it is within the South Tyneside area.
Which illnesses are included? –
Advice from your pharmacist is always FREE but thanks to the Think Pharmacy First scheme they can also provide treatment for the minor illnesses below:
Aches and Pains – Back pain, Headache, Migraine, Period pain, Teething and Toothache
Allergies – Bites and stings, Hay fever and Skin reactions
Colds and Flu – Cough, Congestion, Sore throat, Fever and/or temperature
Ear Care – Earache, Ear infection and Ear wax
Eye Care – Bacterial conjunctivitis (sticky eyes) and Styes
Stomach Aches – Constipation, Diarrhoea, Haemorrhoids, Indigestion, Reflux, Threadworm and Vomiting
Head Lice
Any skin or mouth problems – Athletes foot, Chickenpox, Cold sores, Contact dermatitis (inflammation of skin), Fungal nail infection, Impetigo (blisters), Nappy rash, Scabies, Skin rash, Vaginal thrush, Warts and verrucae.
Can I get free treatment?
If you don’t normally pay for your medicines, then you don’t need to pay with Think Pharmacy First – you can get them free and over the counter from your local pharmacist without the need to see your GP.
We have leaflets available in the surgery with a more extensive range of problems that can be treated by a pharmacist, just call in to the surgery to pick up a leaflet, or call the surgery and we can post a leaflet out to your home address, alternatively next time you visit the Nurse or GP ask them for a leaflet.
